Call for Papers: Sustainability, Ethics, and the Environment Summer Session 2024

Call for Papers, Sessions, and Participants

for the Summer Sessions 2024

of NSU study circle on Sustainability, Ethics, and the Environment

29 July – 5 August 2024

Løgumkloster Højskole, Southern Denmark

The NSU Sustainability, ethics, and the environment study circle is excited to announce its next meeting as part of the NSU Summer Session 2024 in Løgumkloster Højskole, Southern Denmark, from 29 July to 5 August. Simultaneously, it will mark the eighth Nordic Environmental Ethics Network meeting. The meeting is part of Nordic Summer University’s week-long summer sessions, so all participants are also able to attend other study circles’ sessions, and there will be joint special sessions and social gatherings during the week. The week also provides an excellent opportunity to combine the symposium and intense collegial collaboration (e.g., research papers, funding applications, research plans etc.)

We welcome abstract submissions and session proposals on any topic in ethics of sustainability, environmental ethics or normatively oriented environmental social sciences by Nordic and Baltic researchers or in the Nordic and Baltic context. Abstracts concern conventional conference presentations; session proposals can include any other proposals for 60–90-minute sessions with an academically interesting content such as roundtables, mini-workshops, or one-off reading circles.

We also welcome student participants, who can get study credits for participating, as the week also serves as a summer school.

Please submit your abstract (300-500 words) or a session proposal via email to Linnea Luuppala linnea.luuppala[at]helsinki.fi by April 30, 2024. Decisions will be announced soon after. If you would like to attend the symposium without presenting a paper (e.g., as a summer school), please email a short Bio. A certificate of participation can be given in both cases for travel allowance eligibility purposes.

The all-inclusive cost of the week-long summer session will range from:

175 euros – grants and scholarships – bed in a twin room

250 euros – children 4 to 12

425 euros – bring your own tent

A limited number of grants and scholarships (price reduced to 175 euros) will be available in exchange for lending a hand with light tasks during the summer session. If you are interested in receiving a grant or scholarship, please indicate it in your email. The price includes NSU membership, so it is not necessary to purchase it separately. If you have already attended a winter symposium and paid the membership, please indicate it in your email, and you will receive a discount code to deduct the membership fee.
